Easter Nepal Adventure

So Live the Adventure have just come back from a two week expedition in Nepal.

The two weeks were fantastic fun and one of our most popular itineraries we run incorporating a 5 day trek, 3 days at the Chitwan national park and then two days rafting on the Trusuli River.

Anthony and Holly met the team at the airport on the 31st April, with the shock of Kathmandu about to hit them, they were all very excited despite the jet lag. A short bus journey took us into Thamel where the guys checked into their hotel. The following day we headed back to the airport but this time to the domestic terminal where we took a short flight to Pokhara.

Arriving in Pokhara there wasn’t much time for the group to have a look around so they would have to save that for the rest day! Lunch was provided at the Landmark Hotel – which gave everyone a little incentive knowing where they will end up after the trek. Here we met our fantastic trekking guides Dawwa, Lakpa and Suman who were going to be with us for the next 5 days. Both Dawwa and Lakpa we have used before in our mountaineering school on Island Peak back in 2011.

The trek was a 5 day trek to Poon Hill, we started in Nayapul and spent the first night in Hille. This time of year its fairly hot so the earlier we can start to trek in the morning the better. The following morning was a steep climb and a long day up to Ghorepani. Lots of steps!!

Goraparni we stayed the night and woke up around half 4 in the morning, chucked on our down jackets and headed off to summit Poon Hill at 3200. We were very lucky our summit day was a clear day and got a fantastic view of the Annapurna range.

Next two days of the trek were ‘a little bit up a little bit down’ in Nepal language! And there were a few unexpected hail storms while we were on our way down too – but it was a nice cool down.

On the last day of the trek we arrived back in Nayapul, here we left our porters and headed back to Pokhara for some celebratory cocktails at Moon dance Cafe.

The following day was a rest day in Pokhara where some of the group decided to rest…while others explored the mountains again by heading off to Sarangkot to do some Paragliding, and others dared the fasted and longest Zip line in the world.

The next day we headed to Chitwan National Park, fairly long drive in the heat, but so worth the wait. We were staying at Tiger Tops, one of the best lodges in the Park, greeted by cool towels our group were extremely excited. The resort was beyond fantastic, authentic rooms, swimming pool, knowledgeable staff, delicious food and the best elephant safaris we have ever experienced in Nepal. The day we arrived we went on an elephant safari and saw around 5 Rhinos and even a baby, some saw monkeys and deer also.

The following day we got to head to the elephant camp for elephant orientation, we learn about how they feed elephants and then our group were lucky enough to take all 8 elephant they have at the lodge for a bath in the river – what a fantastic experience. The days at the lodge were broken up by fabulous banquets, swimming pool fun and sun bathing in the hammocks. When it was time to leave the group looked slightly saddened – but only until they arrived at our next adventure – white water rafting.

We left Chitwan after lunch and drove to Trusuli river and the Himalayan Outdoor Centre camp. Cross a huge bridge over the river the guys settled in to safari style tents and kicked back with a beer whilst getting briefed on tomorrows rafting itinerary.

Some of the group decided to kayak the upper section of the River down to Royal beach camp. In the afternoon the rapids got a lot bigger and faster, great fun with a few raft wars on the way go too.

After two days rafting it was time to head back to the busy hustle and bustle of Kathmandu. We spent a days sight seeing with the group, visiting the Swayambhunath Monkey Temple and taking the younger ones in the group Sari Shopping!

The day had arrived which everyone had been dreading, home time – after a fantastic trip with a great group of people we packed everyone into a van at 6.30 and set off to the airport.

Live the Adventure will be running the same trip again next year in the Easter two week holidays. Truly an adventure not to be missed!
