Tamur River Expedition with trekking
The best combination holiday in Nepal – Classic trekking and a world class white water rafting experience in one exciting adventure holiday.
This is the ultimate adventure holiday in Nepal and far more than just a river trip. A real expedition experience combining a trek with up to 70 porters joining us to take everything from rafts and paddles, to kitchen barrels and tents, as we trek into the river along a 10,000ft ridge with stunning views of the Himalayas and surrounding peaks.
Once at the river we then start the excitement of the Tamur River Expedition with some world-class grade 4 white water rafting through remote villages, camping out on large sandy beaches under the stars each night.
The Tamur river expedition is still one of our personal favourites at Live the Adventure Worldwide Travel after more than 21 years of travel to and from Nepal. A real hands on expedition where we encourage group participation to gain the most from the experience as we travel together to complete an amazing journey emerging at the end of the trip near the Indian plains with a real sense of achievement.
Day 1 – Arrive Kathmandu where our private transport will collect and transfer to our Hotel in Thamel. Evening briefing by Live The Adventure Worldwide Travel Staff.
Day 2 – A short morning flight to Biratnagar and a 4-hour drive to Basantapur/Lodge, the start of our trek the following day.
Day 3 – A full day trekking to Magalbhara, with our team of porters and guides and all of our river kit, through villages and Rhododendron forests.
Day 4 – A full day trek to Gurja (approx. 7 hours) through remote villages and paddy fields.
Day 5 – Trekking to Dovan (4 hours) to our start point and beach camp for the night by the river and our first close look at the Tamur.
Day 6 – Our white water rafting in Nepal starts after breakfast after getting into the routine of packing the rafts. The first day has some great challenging white water with beautiful scenery before getting to our take out and camp at Kabelighat on the riverbanks on a stunning sandy beach.
Day 7 – After breakfast and packing up camp another day of adventure, a little easier section then the first day, as we travel through fishing villages and past monkeys on the riverside along the way to our next beach camp.
Day 8 – Full day white water rafting on Tamur with stunning scenery and white water.
Day 9 – Full day white water rafting on Tamur River with some great rapids and plenty of time to get to camp to chill out and relax.
Day 10 – The best white water is left to the last full day, with full on action all of the way to our beach camp on the confluence with the Sun Kosi River.
Day 11 – After an early start we have two hours rafting to Chatara and the end of our river trip. After lunch we drive approx. 2 hours to Biratnagar airport and fly back to Kathmandu. We will be collected from the airport and taken back to our hotel for the evening to talk about tales of the trek and white water over a well-earned drink!
Day 12 – Free day in Kathmandu sightseeing, souvenirs, visit some of the many notable sites or chill out in one of the garden bars. In the evening join together for a farewell dinner.
Day 13 – Transfer to airport and return flight home.
